Ottawa, May 12th, 2020: The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) is pleased to announce a continuation of its research into Canada’s EdTech landscape. ICTC has committed to a further analysis of the relationship between technology and education. This new study investigates a series of innovative educational technologies and techniques while seeking to understand how their integration into a Canadian classroom can reshape the learning process for students and the teaching journey for educators.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, digitally grounded learning and teaching might have been considered luxuries that could unfold at a comfortable and methodical pace. Today, we have been thrust into unfamiliar territory that calls upon technology to rapidly reshape and alter the educational landscape at an unprecedented rate.

ICTC’s recent research report titled “Class, Take Out Your Tablets: The Impact of Technology on Learning and Teaching in Canada” examines the development of innovative educational technologies and their impact on Canadian classrooms and communities. The next phase of this research takes that discussion further to evaluate not only the benefits of technology for education but how technology is fundamentally changing the way students learn and the way educators teach.

“As the world continues to address the socioeconomic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, EdTech is destined to play a critical role in shaping tomorrow’s educational system in Canada. There is much to look forward to in this initiative as we explore the evolving digital learning models and their applications for students, teachers, and workers,” said Namir Anani, ICTC President & CEO.

In the context of the current circumstances, this research will also examine the ways in which technology will necessitate the evolution of educational policies in post-COVID-19 Canada, where remote learning may become a common practice.

This study will interview and showcase insights from Canadian educators, policy makers, and industry representatives discussing innovative approaches to technology implementation in education for lasting positive impacts on Canada and our digital economy.
