Ottawa, February 2, 2022 – Following its 2022 Digital Future Summit, ICTC Horizon, the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC), and the CIO Strategy Council are forging a partnership to advance the objective of the Sustainable IT Pledge toward a digital-led sustainable Canadian economy.

Over the next year, ICTC will drive actionable change toward a more sustainable digital-led economy through various partnerships and a series of forward-looking policy roundtables. These policy roundtables will build on the discourse inspired by 80+ Canadian and international thought leaders on the digital economy at the recently concluded ICTC Horizon summit.

The following policy roundtables will be convened throughout 2022:

  • Sustainable Information Technology (IT)
  • The Green Talent Pipeline
  • Beyond Smart Cities: Green Communities
  • Climate-Driven International Cooperation and Investment
  • Inclusive, Humane, and Sustainable Tech

In preparation for these policy roundtables, ICTC, and the CIO Strategy Council are asking leaders from all facets of the digital economy to join us in signing the Sustainable IT Pledge.

Canada’s transformation to a digital economy is spurring job creation and growth, but it also creates carbon emissions that drive climate change. The CIO Strategy Council’s Sustainable IT Pledge is the first-ever commitment by Canadian organizations to cut rapidly rising emissions from digital technologies. ICTC is committed to this pledge and building the critical dialogue needed to advance an inclusive and robust Canadian Green Economy.

If your organization sees itself as a leader at the intersection of sustainability and technology, contact us to discuss participating in or partnering on any of the highlighted roundtables.

“We are delighted to partner with the CIO Strategy Council on this pledge to advance a digitally inspired sustainable economy for Canada. Our actions today will form the foundations of a better and prosperous future for generations to come.” – Namir Anani, ICTC President and CEO

“Public, private, and non-profit organizations have come together to set GHG emissions reduction targets relating to their IT operations and supply chain, and to measure and disclose their progress.
