Ottawa, July 18, 2019 — Today, the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) is pleased to announce its partnership with the Government of New Brunswick’s Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour to study the demand for digital talent within the province. As a one-year analysis, this project will uncover the role and impact of cybersecurity in building the province’s future workforce. Investigating the demand for cybersecurity jobs, their critical skillsets and the talent supply pipeline, this study will identify the unique labour force attributes that make the province a thriving cybersecurity landscape.
ICTC’s soon to be released outlook report 2023 highlights a healthy demand of over 350,000 digital workers across the economy to meet Canada’s highest growth potential over the next five years. New Brunswick, a central pillar driving forward Canada’s cybersecurity presence will undoubtedly play a key role in meeting this demand.
As Namir Anani, President & CEO of ICTC explains, “Cyber attacks are growing in volume, sophistication, and complexity. Specific cybersecurity rules-based techniques that are taught to cybersecurity professionals are no longer effective in providing the necessary safeguards that we require. Cybersecurity mastery now requires a holistic skills approach with three fundamental constructs: people & organizational skills; A.I. & technical skills, and lifelong learning cyber-literacy skills.”
Using first-hand findings resulting from consultations with the province’s industry and educational leaders, associations, policy makers, and a variety of other stakeholder groups, this research aims to bolster the province’s cybersecurity industry, and support future growth in the province. By highlighting the jobs, skills, supply, and training pathways that will continue to propel New Brunswick forward, this is a critical step in building the province’s digital future as a cybersecurity leader.
