Today, The Information and Communications Technology Council is pleased to announce a partnership agreement with the IMD World Competitiveness Center in Lausanne, Switzerland, to better benchmark and strengthen Canada’s competitive advantage in a global economy. Founded in 1989, IMD is a world leader for over 30 years in forward-looking research and comparative analysis, notably the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking. ICTC is proud to be the designated Canadian partner for the IMD World Competitiveness Center.

“We are very pleased to form a new partnership with the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) of Canada. Since 1989 when the IMD World Competitiveness Center was launched, the production of the annual IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook has been a project that demands the contribution of many stakeholders. A pillar in the accurate and timely assembly of the Yearbook is the work undertaken by the local Partner Institutes that contribute in the collection of survey data and ensure the accuracy, reliability and timely provision of hard data. We are very happy to call the ICTC our Partner Institute for Canada.”

                       — Christos Cabolis, Chief Economist & Head of Operations at IMD

In 2018, ICTC launched its seminal whitepaper, the Canadian Digital Innovation Measure: Innovation Climate to better define the prevailing metrics that make up the innovation potential of our economy.  This paper examined key indicators underpinning digital innovation, including education levels, R&D, investment in digital skills training, access to venture capital, and others. Continuing to shed light on these important catalysts, while evaluating other potential measures like the culture of innovation, the diversity dividend, and others will be critical in shaping the discourse and building a competitive roadmap for Canada in the coming years. ICTC will launch the second whitepaper in this series, Canadian Digital Innovation Measure: Innovation Capacity, in the fall of 2019.

“We are delighted to grow our research collaboration internationally and partner with the IMD World Competitive Center in Switzerland. As Canada’s economy continues to undergo structural transformation brought upon by innovative technologies, evolving trade dynamics, environmental trends, and labour market shifts, gauging Canada’s competitive advantage in a global digital context will be key in the coming years. This collaboration with a world leader in economic and competitive analysis will pave the way for greater insights on Canada’s innovation journey.”

                     — Namir Anani, ICTC President & CEO

The partnership between IMD and ICTC will be a significant force when it comes to benchmarking and continuing to support the digital leadership of Canadian businesses internationally. We look forward to expanding on this relationship and working with the IMD World Competitiveness Center to support the development of timely, accurate, and impactful research for a competitive Canadian digital economy.
