CA PRIME from Sisler High School in Winnipeg, MB, were crowned winners of the CyberTitan III National Finals on June 10, 2020

OTTAWA, ON. June 11, 2020 The CyberTitan III National Finals have concluded with Team CA PRIME from Sisler High School in Winnipeg, MB, taking the top prize. Team Olympians Maroon from Old Scona Academic in Edmonton, AB, placed second, and third place went to 404:Team_not_found from William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute in North York, ON.

“I’ve been a part of our school’s cybersecurity program since Grade 9,” said Devlin N, CA PRIME’s Captain. “I have been fortunate to be a part of the CyberTitan National Finals for the first three years of its existence. CyberTitan has been a driving force for cybersecurity education in Canada, and there is no better place to start learning about the cyber landscape than in high school and middle school.”

The virtual six-hour cybersecurity competition took place June 8; a virtual Summit was held on June 9, where students heard from cybersecurity industry experts; and the official Award Celebration was hosted June 10.

CyberTitan III National Finals featured 10 teams from across Canada. Due to COVID-19, the normally in-person competition was transformed into a virtual event, where all 57 student competitors were able to participate from their homes.

“CyberTitan – Canadian Youth Cyber Education Initiative provides students from Grades 6 through 12 the opportunity to expand their cybersecurity skillsets, understand the importance of teamwork and, ultimately, test those skills against teams across the country,” said Robert Esposito, CA PRIME Coach and educator at Sisler High School.

CyberTitan III was the culmination of six months of cybersecurity training and competitions between more than 200 high school and middle school cybersecurity teams from British Columbia to New Brunswick. ICTC’s CyberTitan program helps educate students in cybersecurity skills and inspires them to pursue a career in cybersecurity and STEM-related fields.

“The program inspired some members on my team to join as well,” explained Devlin N. “The past six months have been an interesting challenge for all of us and competing online in the CyberTitan III National Finals was no exception. It’s hard to think of a better way to end off my high school experience than winning CyberTitan with my team.”

The theme for the CyberTitan III National Finals was Hedgefund 2020. Students competed to keep Canadians’ money safe in the stock market. Octopi Managed Services Inc. created the simulation for the finals, based on real-world financial cybersecurity demands.

“CyberTitan – Canadian Youth Cyber Education Initiative is leading the charge in providing essential cybersecurity education to students across Canada,” said Esposito. “I highly encourage all teachers to join the program.”

The CyberTitan team at ICTC is extremely happy with the virtual event and very proud of the professionalism shown by all student during the competition and accompanying events. All teams should be please and proud of their accomplishments this year, no matter how they ranked in the standings. It was anyone’s game.
