FNASA of William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute in North York, Ontario, clinched the top spot in this year’s ICTC CyberTitan National Competition Finals.
Username Taken of West Vancouver Schools in West Vancouver, British Columbia, placed second, followed by Team Poseidon of Old Scona Academic in Edmonton, Alberta, in third place. Firewall Fighters of Nashwaaksis Middle School in Fredericton, New Brunswick, won first place in the middle school division, while DROP TABLE of William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute in North York, Ontario took home the Defender of the Year award.
The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) hosted the CyberTitan VIII National Competition from May 7–8. This year’s competition involved student teams racing to resolve a simulated cybersecurity challenge securing the critical infrastructure for the fictional city of Springfield as quickly as possible.
The event marked the final in a series of national and international cybersecurity skills competitions for youth aged 11–18 to determine Canada’s top high school and middle school cybersecurity teams.
This award follows six months of intense school-year competitions between 190 Canadian teams. The national finals brought together the top four teams from Western Canada, the top four teams from Eastern Canada, the top three middle school teams, and the top all-girls team. For the third year in a row, we have welcomed exhibition teams from the Canadian Cadets to participate in the finals.

“We’re over the moon to announce our championship victory at CyberTitan VIII, capping off three years of dedication and teamwork from our members: Sean, Alex, Phil, Felix, Fei, and Raymond. This year has been a rollercoaster, with hours and hours of staring at a computer screen, to competing in the national finals. We owe our success to the countless hours of practice, innovative problem solving, and unwavering spirit that define our team. A heartfelt shoutout goes to our coach, Mr. Guglielmi, whose guidance propelled us to the top, and to the William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute Cybersecurity Club for giving us the opportunity to compete, and the collaborative environment that made this achievement possible. FNASA’s journey continues, and we can’t wait to see our school’s growth in the following years. As seniors, Sean, Alex, Felix, and Raymond sign off on their CyberTitan journey, FNASA is blasting off into the next chapter. Ad Astra Per Aspera.” — FNASA of William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute in North York, Ontario
“Throughout the past two years, we have worked extremely hard in learning more about cyber security. We all have a cool work dynamic, and our personal interests make us a very unique and powerful team. While our Linux vs Windows rivalry is very real on this team, it has given us motivation to exceed in our operating system knowledge! We are very appreciative of the effort from everyone at ICTC and Field Effect for making this competition happen. Special shoutout to our coach Mr. Gautreau, mentor Griffin, and Matey and Colin!” — Firewall Fighters of Nashwaaksis Middle School in Fredericton, New Brunswick
“Our sincere congratulations to FNASA for clinching the Championship! This year was a particularly tight race. We are immensely proud of the CyberTitan program and all the critical support from our sponsors, partners, parents, coaches, and teams! We hope these students continue into STEM careers. I already feel safer knowing some of them will keep Canadians cyber-safe in the future.” — ICTC's National Director of CyberTitan, Sheena Bolton.

About ICTC’s CyberTitan Competition
CyberTitan was launched by ICTC in 2017 as Canada’s National Youth Cyber Education Program, in affiliation with the (US) Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot Program.
Now in its eighth year, CyberTitan is Canada’s largest cyber defence competition. It is an exciting opportunity for middle and secondary school students to learn critical digital skills.
Based on real-world scenarios, the CyberTitan competition emulates cybersecurity threats that Canadian businesses face each year. Participating youth from across Canada reinforce their problem-solving, creative, communication, and collaborative skills. Ultimately, students are equipped with critical skills sought by today’s employers, helping them pursue post-secondary education in STEM programs. The program also addresses the underrepresentation of women in the cybersecurity industry.
In addition to the competition, ICTC provides youth with a Cybersecurity Fundamentals Course that details the history of the internet and provides students with the skills to recognize online threats, take steps to reduce harm and, most importantly, learn which professions in cybersecurity may await them. Field Effect’s Cyber Range platform also offers 15 cybersecurity technical hands-on courses that teach students technical skills in Windows and Linus file management, steganography, active defence, and firewalls.
For five years, Field Effect has been the competition’s host platform provider, scenario designer, and game-day facilitator. With the generous support of the Communications Security Establishment (CSE), CyberTitan continues to thrive year after year, pushing students to new heights of cybersecurity excellence.
