ACROSS THE COUNTRY, CANADIAN STUDENTS COMPETED IN THE CYBERPATRIOT, A GLOBAL YOUTH CYBERSECURITY COMPETITION. OUT OF OVER 133 CANADIAN TEAMS, THE TOP 11 WERE SELECTED TO COMPETE HEAD-TO-HEAD IN THE CYBERTITAN NATIONAL FINALS. NOW IN ITS 4th YEAR, CYBERTITAN HAS GROWN INTO ONE OF THE LARGEST NATIONAL YOUTH CYBER DEFENCE COMPETITIONS. SO WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A CYBERTITAN? Highlights about your team or team members?
This is everyone’s first year participating in a competition like this; as such, we are a team of incredibly talented and driven individuals constantly striving for excellence.
What encouraged you to join CyberTitan?
My teacher and peers, who had previously participated, all strongly recommended the competition to me. That, coupled with my existing passion for Cybersecurity, led me to join.
How has CyberTitan changed your perspective on the importance of cybersecurity?
CyberTitan has and continues to be a great learning experience. It has grown my appreciation of Cybersecurity and has offered an invaluable perspective comparable to real-world situations.
Hassan
Highlights about your team or team members?
I really enjoyed working with this group because, as they have shown, they are all incredibly talented, and it’s fun to be with them in this competition.
What encouraged you to join CyberTitan?
I found that it was important to have knowledge and experience in how to defend a machine from cyberattacks around the world. Also, the thought of playing in a national tournament with so many teams just sounded insanely cool to me.
How has CyberTitan changed your perspective on the importance of cybersecurity?
CyberTitan has showed me how important it is to know how to keep a computer safe from hackers around the world and just how many different steps are required to make sure that happens.

Highlights about your team or team members?
These guys are an awesome group of people who push me every day and are right beside me whenever we have to face a challenge.
What encouraged you to join CyberTitan?
I have a passion for cybersecurity and learning the complexity of how modern devices work, and CyberPatriot was a super cool way for me to learn more about these topics.
How has CyberTitan changed your perspective on the importance of cybersecurity?
CyberTitan has not only taught me so much but also shifted my perspective about the importance of cybersecurity. There are so many threats out there and so many ways to exploit them and engineers and computer scientists have to know how to defend devices and networks.

What encouraged you to join CyberTitan?
I was studying cybersecurity and CyberPatriot seemed like a really fun way of applying what I learned, so I joined.
How has CyberTitan changed your perspective on the importance of cybersecurity?
It made me realize that there are so many different ways for a computer to be compromised and shows how easy it is for someone to not realize their computer has been compromised.

Samin is a ferocious team captain, who leads us with exceptional leadership skills. Garvit is a really talented individual who can work his way around everything. Frank Alvin and Hassan form a formidable Windows team. Overall, I am really blessed to have such a team with so many strengths and passions.

What encouraged you to join CyberTitan?
Honestly, I just wanted to know how to defend my online space, everything is mobilizing digitally quite fast, and we must keep up with society.
How has CyberTitan changed your perspective on the importance of cybersecurity?
It has enlarged my view on cybersecurity. Before I didn’t really care about data and all my files and such, and now I know the importance of why such securities exist and their usefulness.

My team members are awesome.We’ve been together since the beginning. It’s one-step-at-a-time for us, and we’re always happy for each other when anyone of us gets points.

This is the first time I am competing in this competition, and so far. it has been great.
What encouraged you to join CyberTitan?
It was going to be a great way to apply what I have learned to new situations and get valuable experience. This is especially useful when everything is moving digitally and as defending ourselves online becomes more important.
How has CyberTitan changed your perspective on the importance of cybersecurity?
CyberTitan has taught me lots. It changed my views about cybersecurity. It made realize the countless ways a device could be exploited and the value of defending against these threats.
