The Information and Communications Technology Council of Canada (ICTC) is pleased to announce that it has joined the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as a Development Sector Member.
ITU is the United Nations specialized agency for digital technology. ITU’s global membership brings together 194 Member States as well as some 1,000 companies, universities, and international and regional organizations. In doing so, ITU provides a unique, trusted, and global multi-stakeholder platform for partners from the public and private sectors to address major ICT issues.
ITU’s Development Bureau, ITU-D, works to close the digital divide and drive digital transformation to leverage the power of ICTs for economic prosperity, job creation, digital skills development, gender equality, diversity, a sustainable and circular economy, and for saving lives.
Canada's participation in the ITU-D is under the stewardship of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canda (ISED) and seeks to advance affordable connectivity, digital transformation, policy and regulatory environments, international cooperation, and ICTs for sustainable development on the global stage.
ICTC looks forward to engaging with ITU-D and its membership to provide Canadian-made expertise and best practices in capacity development, research, policy and innovation for an inclusive and accessible digital future for all.
