Timothy King, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Cybersecurity, and Quantum Expert
Tim dropped out of high school to become a millwright. When automation crept into the shop, Tim took up information technology, becoming an IT technician. Finishing high school at 24, Tim went on to university, earning an honours B.A. with double majors in English and Philosophy. This led right back into IT, where digital transformation in manufacturing was the focus before getting married and heading to Japan for two years, where supporting engineers and doctors preparing their research for international presentation in English was the gig. Returning to Canada in 2000, Tim once again worked in IT until 2004 when he earned a Bachelor of Education and began teaching in Ontario. Tim’s students have won numerous Skills Canada medals ranging from IT & Networking to electronics engineering, coding, GIS, and 3d animation. They found this success by exploring technology at its earliest stages. Tim built VR-based games in class in 2016 and was working on coding AI by 2018. In 2017, they learned of ICTC’s new CyberTitan program, and Tim’s student teams have been in the top ten in Canada every year they competed. In 2019, Tim became the first K-12 teacher in Canada to become a CCNA Cyber Operations Instructor through Cisco. Previously seconded to the Quantum Algorithms Institute, Tim earned his MITx Quantum Computing qualifications in 2024 and has been presenting on quantum disruption in cyber across Canada and around the world. Tim is currently seconded to ICTC, working on cyber education and developing educational approaches to emerging technology. When Tim isn’t exploring the latest technology, Tim likes to restore and ride old motorbikes.
